Life With ADD / ADHD has been rather quiet for a long time but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people here. It does mean that since the conversation has gone rather cold, it is difficult to connect with each other. So let me see if I can introduce the “recent” members of Life With ADD and I hope you might get to “meet” each other and help each other out a little.
I’ve adjusted some people’s screen name so that you can talk a little more anonymously than with your full name.
My first mention goes to @Sarah somewhere mid USA. Sarah joined a couple of Christmases ago because she has a daughter who is about 13 who is having difficulty maintaining friendships and emotional regulation. Sarah is keen to help her daughter but is struggling to know how to help.
Second is @Ayushe who joined last year, lives in San Francisco and is in their twenties. Ayushe struggled with scattered thoughts during their childhood but wants to help others deal with ADHD.
@aji is Barry who lives in Wales, UK and joined about 10 months ago. Barry is struggling with ADHD without having a formal diagnosis. If anyone knows how to access ADHD support in Wales, that would be most helpful.
Next is @braden who is in their 20s and has discovered their ADHD recently. Braden lives in Texas. They have been prescribed Vyvanse which has “helped significantly with my career, which was otherwise on a sharp decline”!
We also have @AndyB who lives in Devon, UK. Andy has had a number of diagnoses over time and only discovered the right diagnosis of ADHD combined type in his forties, after a chance conversation about his son. Getting the right diagnosis felt very liberating and allowed Andy to understand himself and forgive himself. Andy is also keen to get better at interpersonal relationships.
@Lee joined in October last year and struggled to get anyone to reply to her questions. Leanne lives in South Africa and has a son who is a teenager who has ADHD.
@Jiji is in their twenties and also joined in October. Jiji lives in Iowa and has tried a number of treatments and therapies but realised that they were just coping with their symptoms through adaptation initially and how tiring that was to do. Again, getting a diagnosis was a real weight lifted!
@Jas_H lives in Washington state and is a mom. Jasmine’s big question is “How do you be a mom when you have ADHD?!”
@JuliaE lives in Buckinghamshire in the UK and has a daughter with ADHD. Like Sarah and Leanne, Julia is trying to find the best support for her daughter.
@Imzadi53 lives in South Dakota and was newly diagnosed with ADHD a month or so ago. Shirley is in their fifties and also has an autism spectrum diagnosis. Shirley’s question is how to manage one’s ADHD.
And finally (but by no means least) we have @natez! Nate is in his twenties and also lives in Texas. He’s struggled with ADHD and dyslexia all his life, through school, work and relationships. Nate wrote to Ben’s Friends yesterday and I suggested that we might be able to find each of the people who’ve joined recently someone to talk to, so I’m keen that by this post we might make a few connections. Nate is a bit of a musician, audio engineer and entrepreneur but like others is struggling with life, being organized and some anxiety.
I hope this introduction is useful. We get new members here every month or two. If it is important to introduce new members in this way to ensure that you connect to each other, do let me know
Very best wishes,
Richard
